Taste Test: “Steakout” and “Blackout” Sirloin

One of the (awesome) benefits of our job is we get to put newly added rubs and seasonings to the taste test. This time round it was BBQ Mafia’s “Steakout” Seasoning and Rum & Cue’s “Blackout”.

First up we tried our scotch fillet drizzled lightly with Al Browns Orange & Chilli Infused Olive Oil.  Pouring the oil you pick up a very noticeable orange twang.  Then came the lightly seasoning of  the award winning BBQ Mafia ‘Steakout’ Rub.

After grilling 3 minutes per side at 220/230 C° on the Weber Traveler,  I then let the steak rest for 10 minutes to let the juices redistribute. I then carved the steak into thin slices ready to serve to customers. As you can see, it didn’t turn out too bad!

The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare and both the olive oil and Steakout rub gave it an amazing flavour. In the case of the olive oil, the infused chilli gave some heat, and provided some subtle hints of orange flavour. Meanwhile the smokey, peppery Steakout rub elevated the flavour of the steak well above what traditional salt and pepper seasoning can accomplish.

Much the same setup and cooking process was used for tasting the Rum & Cue ‘Blackout’.   However, this time we used Olive Black’s Black Garlic Infused Olive oil.  This oil gave a tasty garlic flavour to accompany the nice rich, dark peppery flavour of the Blackout rub.

After tasing both rubs I can confidently say that they are both absolutely amazing with beef cuts and well worth a try for yourself!
